The Monthly Report
July - August 2008
Capt. Randy owner/operator of Blue Heron Guide Boat Service reports in July and August as the surface water temperature warms up to 85 degrees, the Striped Bass will orient to deep channels and deep lake points as they continue to swim ever deeper to find the ideal cool water they like in Lake Murray. Try anchoring your boat on lake points and channels in 50 to 100 feet of water and fish live and cut herring 2 to 5 cranks off the bottom. Use your sonar to find schools of fish and single anchor and fish live bait straight down with 1 1/2 ounce sinkers or drift through them. When you find fish, stay put and have fun! Don't get too close to other boats since your fish will get tangled up in their lines. Don't forget that in the months of July and August we're allowed to keep 2 Striped Bass per person ANY SIZE and the other 3 have to be over 21 inches!! You'll be able to take home more fish even if they're not running big the day your out. Now is the time to call Capt. Above all else don't get on top of someone else who's catching fish, you'll just scare off the school and nobody catches anything then. If you work at it you can find your own fish. Remember to keep a courteous distance between yourself and other fisherman that are trying to catch fish too. Hire me for a fishing charter and I'll teach you.
